ParticipantHi Megan,
I’m glad I could be of some help!
All the best, and good luck with your research,

ParticipantHi Megan,
Do you have any BMD dates for Alex? Are you saying he married in Liverpool, or had his bride moved to Ayrshire from Liverpool? I don’t have any connections to the Longwill family, but I can give you a few pointers, if this will help?
On ScotlandsPeople, I see a birth in 1890 for an Alexander Longwill in Lugar (no middle name registered, but he may have assumed it later):
LONGWILL, ALEXANDER, [mother’s maiden surname] MURDOCH, M, 1890, 577 / 2 / 58, Lugar
There were several other Alexander Longwill births (not limiting the search to Ayrshire), but I couldn’t see any registered with MAXWELL as their middle name.
Just searching the surname, I found 7 other LONGWILL births with mms MURDOCH in Ayrshire between 1855-1931, in Lugar and Auchinleck. But none have Maxwell as a middle name, including Alexander.
But then I used Fuzzy matching on the surname search, and found Mary Maxwell Murdoch LONGWELL:
LONGWELL, MARY MAXWELL MU, MURDOCH, F, 1877, 577 / 32, Auchinleck
I found an 1877 marriage for Walter LONGWELL (note spelling again) and Margaret MURDOCH in Auchinleck:
LONGWELL, WALTER, MURDOCH, MARGARET, 1877, 577 / 29, Auchinleck
You might want to get this record to find where the MAXWELL middle name came from.
You will have to spend some credits on https://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/ to look at the records, I’m afraid! Do give us a shout if you need any help with the site.
All the best,
